Joey Does Coke

so this has nothing to do with the band but i run the site so fuck it!

i just finished collaborating with award winning composer Robert Miller (Teeth, The Caller) on this Coke commercial. he did the front half and i did the hip-hop track.

peace,

joey

Stuck On “Stupid”

just a quick little update about our progress. yesterday we got together for the first time in about 2 months and reworked “stupid”. added some nice old school hip hop breakbeats to replace the live drums. we really love the way it came out. really laid back and will definately make your head nod.

peace,

joey

IT’S 2009 AND A LOT HAS CHANGED

so first off, sorry the site’s been out of commission for a while. we had our old site hosted on uber.com and, well with the bad economy, they lost their funding. too bad. it was a great tool.

2008:
anyway, it was an interesting year for us. we tried to alter the band’s sound by becoming a full live act. this required the addition of a drummer and bass player and me switching to guitar. well, although we had a lot of fun experimenting and playing shows, things didn’t quite turn out the way we planned. alex and robert both decided that being in a band was a little too much for them to handle right now so they have decided to step down from their respective roles as bass player and drummer. we respect their decision and wish them well.

2009:
not wanting to waste any more time, des, menyu, and i have decided to forge ahead as a 3 piece once again. this time we will be doing things differently. the plan is to re-work the songs we wrote last year using the lovely machines we relied on before. we will also be incorporating the guitar elements as well. the new sound will be a hybrid of our old sound and what we did with the full band. then our goal is to record and put out another album before the year is over.

as for shows, once we figure out how the songs will work, then we will start testing them out live. i’ll keep you posted.

peace,
joey

A Review

so we found this great little blurb about us on this blog. thanks for the kind words daniel!:

“Living in New York City, you are almost constantly bombarded by independent musicians just trying to get a break. You see them everywhere. On the street, in the subway, in the parks. Most of the bands are good. Many are very good, yet their sound really is not that much different than what is out there now. It’s those rare artists who break away from the mainstream who are able to break out of obscurity. “Fear Called Living” just may be one of those bands.

Fear Called Living (formerly called Arcadia) is a trip hop group formed in the Bronx. (Who ever said nothing good comes out of the Bronx?) Their music is a mix of electronica and hip-hop with a cool, melodic vocal track. The sound is quite indescribable. You must hear it to believe it. The best way to imagine the sound of this band is to imagine Evanescence with a much more cool and hip background. As of now, the band is currently unsigned. The website Unsigned.com has a place for them there.

Unsigned.com bills itself as, “the new voice for independent Artists looking for the chance to be discovered”. They boast that over 2000 independent Artists have already signed on. The website is unique in that it allows listeners to interact directly with the artists, thereby building a “grass roots” listenership.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a hip-hop fan. Do not let the use of that term to describe this music steer you away. This entire genre of music is out there, and is not being played outside of big cities. All you have to do is ask. If you like a band that is getting no radio play, call the station and ask for it. Keep calling. Get everyone you know to call. That’s what happened to John Mayer.

In the meantime, check out Fear Called Living and the entire trip hop genre at unsigned.com. While you are there, you can look around at some of their other genres…but trip hop is definitely something you may have never heard before. And I guarantee you will like it.”

MAY 3RD SHOW CANCELED!

we regret to inform everyone that our much anticipated return is going to have to wait a little while longer. due to some “issues” with the show’s promoter, we will not be playing don hill’s on may 3rd, which sux big hairy monkey balls because are really looking forward to playing again. our music keeps getting better and we keep getting tighter as a band. anyway, keep checking back here for updates.

peace,
joey

WE HAVE A BASS PLAYER

Fear Called Living would like to welcome Alex Figueroa to the band. Some of you may remember Alex from his bass playing duties in Nitch where he and I rocked out for many years. He joined us for just two rehearsals and we knew he was the one. So now that we are complete, we are going to keep writing and rehearsing and should start playing shows by late April / early May.

peace,

Joey

Band update!

sorry for the lack of updates but i’m really fucking lazy. anyway, we’d like to welcome our new drummer robert spencer to the band. we’ve known him for many years and we are really happy he decided to join us. that just leaves us one one more hole to fill before the band is complete. so in other words WE NEED A BASS PLAYER! if you or anyone you know is interested please email us at fearcalledliving@yahoo.com… the new songs are coming along nicely. we’ve only come together about 5 times now and already have 3 songs in the can. the music is much different from our old stuff. more of a rock edge to them. no more electronic drums and turntables. but we may look to implement them in the future. right now we’re just focusing on being a live band and writing as such and not just twisting knobs pressing buttons… well that’s it or now. i’ll try and update more often in the future.

peace,

joey
